The Jokowi Era: A New Age for Indonesia?

Indonesia, the world’s third largest democracy has chosen Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, a man not usually associated with the country’s political elite, to become the seventh president of the country. Many believe that Indonesia has entered a new era. Join us as prominent scholars and practitioners from institutions as varied as UBC, Stanford, Cornell, the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada, the University of Indonesia as well as NGOs come to discuss the Indonesian presidential elections of 2014 as well as the prospects of the incoming Jokowi presidency and how it will impact Indonesia and the rest of the world.

This will be a day-long conference jointly organised by the UBC Centre for Southeast Asian Research, the UBC Institute of Asian Research, the UBC Department of Asian Studies, and the UBC Liu Institute for Global Issues. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Vancouver.
